Partnerships and Research Coordinator (Fellow)

As the RSRI’s Partnerships and Research Coordinator, a fellowship role supported by the Refugee-Led Research Hub (RLRH), Daniela Segovia leads the RSRI's outreach activities in South and Central America.

Daniela is an experienced foreign policy analyst and humanitarian worker whose interests include working with vulnerable populations forced to flee their home countries, promoting peaceful integration, and combating xenophobia and discrimination in host communities. Originally from Venezuela, Daniela has lived in Australia, Colombia, Spain, and Italy, and currently resides in Mexico City.

Before joining the RSRI in April 2025, Daniela was part of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) team in Mexico, where she provided legal orientation to individuals in shelters and informal settlements, participated in the Protection Working Group, and managed activities for the Inter-Agency Coordination Platform for Refugees and Migrants from Venezuela (R4V). She also acted as the focal point for trafficking, smuggling, and enforced disappearance issues, coordinating with other UN agencies.

Her dedication to refugees and migrants' rights has earned her notable fellowships, including the Policy Leader Fellow at the European University Institute (2018), Eisenhower Fellow and Carnegie New Leader (2019), and Visiting Fellow at Toronto Metropolitan University (2024).

Daniela also worked at the Ortega y Gasset University Research Institute, chapter Mexico, where she developed training programs on diplomacy and international cooperation and as a lecturer of the subjects: “Agreements, Treaties and International Organizations” and “International Legal Order.”

She is the author of several publications, including Migration in the Americas, Empathy, & Politics, with Daniela Segovia (Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs), Organizaciones Internacionales desafiadas: las visiones divergentes de la ONU y la OEA (globalitika.mx), Xenofobia de clóset: el odio y estigma como dividendo político (Grupo Milenio), and Cuando se trata de trata (Grupo Milenio).

Daniela holds a BA in Political Science from the Central University of Venezuela, an MA in History of the Americas from the Catholic University Andrés Bello, and a Master in International Organizations from the University of Granada in Spain.
