the RSRI Community of Practice

The RSRI Community of Practice (CoP) is a network of 300+ global organizations, including professionals engaged in supporting refugee self-reliance and those who consider themselves advocates for the socio-economic inclusion of refugees through their work.

Members meet bi-monthly for CoP calls to hear updates from the RSRI and other partners and are invited to special events to learn about and enhance refugee self-reliance through data, programming, and advocacy.

The RSRI Hub

The RSRI Hub is a virtual convening space for our Community of Practice.

  • Joining the RSRI Community of Practice allows you to:

    • Enhance your understanding and skills in advancing refugee self-reliance through access to programming and events, including bi-monthly CoP learning calls, virtual coffee hours, focused webinars, and more.

    • Engage with a network of 300+ global organizations, fostering meaningful connections, mutual support, and knowledge exchange.

    • Collaborate with other professionals and advocates in CoP working groups, including our Market Systems Development Technical Working Group (MSD TWG), Climate Risks and Self-Reliance Technical Working Group (Climate TWG), and Research CoP.

    • Share specific challenges and approaches related to advancing self-reliance as a Refugee-Led Organization (RLO) or Community-Based Organization (CBO).

    • Access resources and support as a Self-Reliance Index (SRI) measurement tool user.

    1. Demonstrate Respect for All Members: Treat all members with respect, regardless of their background, beliefs, opinions, or identities. Discriminatory, harassing, or hostile behavior will not be tolerated.

    2. Foster an Inclusive Environment: Celebrate diversity and ensure that everyone feels welcome. The voices and perspectives of refugees and others with lived experiences of forced displacement should be centered. Avoid actions or language that exclude or alienate others.

    3. Engage in Professional Dialogue: Share feedback and opinions thoughtfully and constructively. Debate and disagreements should remain civil and focused on ideas, not personal attacks.

    4. Protect Privacy: Respect the privacy of others. Do not share anyone’s personal information without explicit consent.

    5. Maintain a Safe Space: Report any inappropriate or harmful behavior to the RSRI team by emailing info@refugeeselfreliance.org. Help create an environment where all members feel safe sharing and participating in our professional community.

    6. Adhere to Humanitarian Principles and Content Standards: Act in accordance with the humanitarian principles outlined by UNHCR, and especially ‘do no harm.’ Contribute content relevant to refugee self-reliance that aligns with the platform’s professional and ethical standards. Offensive, explicit, or harmful material is not permitted.

    7. Act with Integrity: Use your real identity and contribute honestly. Represent yourself authentically. Misrepresentation or impersonation undermines trust within the community.

    8. Respect Intellectual Property: Share only content that you own or have permission to use. Attribute sources when sharing external material.

    9. Stay on Topic: Keep discussions relevant to refugee self-reliance and the topic at hand. Avoid spamming or derailing conversations with unrelated content. Thoughtful contributions enhance the CoP’s value. Avoid personal requests for refugee assistance or resettlement support; instead, consult the UNHCR Help page or US Welcome Corps page as needed. The RSRI is unable to serve as a sponsor for immigration programs.

    10. Uphold Platform Policies: Abide by all terms of service, policies, and legal regulations set forth by the MightyNetworks platform on the RSRI Hub. Familiarize yourself with updates to these rules as needed.

By joining the RSRI Community of Practice, you agree to uphold the above guidelines.

A violation of the community guidelines will result in an email check-in with the RSRI team. Repeated violations will result in removal from the Community of Practice email list and/or RSRI Hub, as well as the loss of access to virtual and in-person events.

Community of Practice Working Groups

The RSRI Research CoP

The Research CoP is a sub-group within the broader Community of Practice that convenes researchers and academics working towards expanding the evidence base and intellectual conversations on refugee self-reliance. The Research CoP meets quarterly to exchange project updates, publications, events, and other learning opportunities related to self-reliance focused research.

The RSRI MSD TWG

The Market Systems Development (MSD) Technical Working Group (TWG) collaborates to develop resources around the topic of market systems development and refugee self-reliance and build capacity within the RSRI Community of Practice. The aim of the MSD TWG is to inform country-level decision-making around market approaches in programming across a variety of context typologies, looking at barriers and enablers to self-reliance. Additionally, the group highlights market-based approaches - beyond cash assistance - that work to promote refugee self-reliance in fragile contexts.

The RSRI Climate Risks and Self-Reliance TWG

The Climate Risks and Self-Reliance Technical Working Group (TWG) is a time-bound working group that collaborates to identify good practices, existing research, and evidence gaps and develop resources on climate and self-reliance. The aim of the Climate Risks and Self-Reliance TWG is to co-create policy and agenda-setting outputs on the intersection of refugee self-reliance and climate impacts.

JOIN THE RSRI COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE

The CoP brings together practitioners, researchers, policymakers, and donors who recognize that collective action is necessary to transform the traditional humanitarian response paradigm into a model built on self-reliance.

Together, we aim to respond to the urgency and scale of forced displacement today by cultivating a shared evidence base, developing technical tools and resources, and convening virtually and in person to strengthen collaboration and exchange.
