July 4, 2019
Geneva, Switzerland
In the annual gathering of UNHCR and refugee-focused NGOs, the RSRI led a session titled, “Are Refugees’ Lives Improving? - Facilitating and Measuring Self-Reliance and Economic Inclusion.” The session was designed to promote self-reliance programming, a new measurement tool (the Self-Reliance Index), and advocacy needed to support refugees towards self-reliance.
Speakers included Theresa Beltramo of UNHCR, Mary Wangui of RefugePoint, Solenne Delga of the Danish Refugee Council, Galo Quizanga of HIAS, Alejandra Macias Delgadillo of Asylum Access, and Dale Buscher of the Women’s Refugee Commission.
The session also featured the official launch of the Poverty Alleviation Coalition (PAC), which is a coalition composed of the UNHCR, The World Bank Partnership for Economic Inclusion (PEI), and 11 NGOs who are all working together to increase self-reliance, and the economic and social inclusion of refugees in host communities.
